Apologies

Miss Little is saying a big sorry to everyone who reads our blog.  Her laptop has been very sick AND her digital camera stopped working!  That has made it very difficult for Room 3 to get blogging.  Never fear, we are back in action and ready to go!

Swimming

Every day for two weeks we have been going to Moana Pool to learn how to swim. (and to have a bit of fun as well!)

We get there by bus. Sometimes we get to watch TV on the bus!

When we get there, we get into our togs and walk up to the pools.

Some of us have lessons, while the others have a free swim in the wave pool.

Sometimes the teachers get in the water too and Emma and Julie.

We learn to float on our tummies and our backs. We learn to blow bubbles under water. We learn to use kickboards to help us move through the water. We learn to do strokes.

This is the whirl pool. We love the whirl pool because you can go really fast round the cornors.

We love going swimming every day. We do get a bit tired in the afternoon though.

Our learnings on the Human Body

We have been looking at the human body and everything it does for us! We learned some pretty cool stuff! Here are some of the things we now know!

Lungs make you breathe in and out. – Cameron

You heart pumps the blood.
Your brain is nice and squashy. Mya

Your heart doesn’t ever have a break. Jacob

Your heart goes every single day, even when you’re asleep. Bethany

The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body and the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body! Sam

When you sleep the blood keeps going around and around and it gets oxygen from the heart. Lynley.

The smallest bone is in your ear. Courage and Natasha

Your knee joint lets your leg bend. Natasha

Your blood goes to one part of your body and then it goes back up to the heart to get more oxygen and then it goes to another part of the body. Blain

Muscles help your bones move. Reyana.

You have over 200 bones in your body. Krystal

Your blood goes all over your body and then it starts all over again. Nathaniel

Health nurse visit

The public health nurse came to see us today. She talked to us about staying healthy.

We learned to brush our teeth twice a day. In the night time before we go to bed and in the morning after we eat our breakfast.

We learned how to blow our nose. It is really important we blow out our nose and not our mouth! That can be tricky!
It is also important to blow one nostril at a time into a tissue.

When we wash our hands we have to remember to rub between our fingers and our thumbs and then rinse off all the soap. It is really important to dry our hands well!

We also learned to cough into our sleeves, not into our hands!

Thinking Hats!

Last week we were looking at the Red Thinking Hat. When we have the red hat on, we think about how we are feeling about the problem or issue.

We brainstormed all the different feelings we have and then did some writing about them. This is what we came up with!

excited, nervous, sad, lonely, happy, angry, jealous, worried....

I am excited when my friend comes to stay at my house. - Bethany

I feel sad when I fall over. - Blain

I feel excited when I get to play on the X-Box. - Cameron

I feel excited when I get to go on sleep overs.
I feel angry when I am playing and my Mum tell me what to do. - Sam

I feel angry when I don't get to go to school. - Katelyn

I feel excited when I go on holiday.
I feel angry when I get scratched by the cat. - Natasha

I feel happy when I get KFC. - Courage

I feel jealous when people take toys off me. - Bella

I feel excited when I go to Moana Pool.
I feel sad when people make fun of me. - Krystal

I feel angry when I have to pick up dog poos. - Lynley

I feel angry when I have to go to bed. - Jacob

I feel sad when my Mum and Arleyah and Grandma are going far away. - Reyana

I feel excited when I am by myself at my Nana's house. - Nathaniel

We wonder what makes you happy, sad, angry or excited? Do you have any other feelings for us to think about?

Have a great week everyone!

Dogs, dogs, dogs!

Today we had a visit from from Mrs MacDonald. She is from the City Council and she works for Dog Control.

We learned about how to be safe around dogs.

She bought her dog called Switch. She was cool and she had two different coloured eyes! She was a kind and careful dog. She let us pat her.

This is what you should do if you want to pat a dog.

1 Ask the owner first.

2 Let the dog sniff your hand. Your hand should be in a fist not flat. Flat hands are easy to bite!

3 Pat the dog under his chin and on his chest.

These are some of the things we learned.

If a dog is running at you, you should stay still and fold your arms.

When a dog sniffs you it is saying hello!

Some dogs have to wear a muzzle.

We really liked hearing about how to be safe and we really liked Mrs MacDonald and her dog Switch!

Hello World!

Miss Little would like to say a big sorry to everyone for how late this first blog entry is! We have had a great 3 weeks at school already - it has all zoomed by so fast!

We have really enjoyed singing and dancing and being film stars for the day at Pickled Possum Studios. It was for a programme called KidZone and we sang a song called Great Big Wheels. It was very hot under the bright lights and we had to sing the song lots of times.

We drew around our bodies and decorated them to look just like us. We hope you like the pictures.
