We Love Pixie Town!

We went to Pixie Town at the Early Settlers Museum. The Pixies were really old. Some of our Mums and Dads could remember looking at them when they were kids!

Some of the Pixies moved. They had big feet and looked a bit funny!

The boys got to ride on the sleigh. Miss Little liked Regan's big cheesy grin!

We made cards and wrote a message to Santa. We even got to post the cards to him in a special letter box. we really hope he can write back to us.

There were some cool dress ups there as well. You could dress up as elves or reindeer or even Santa!

Miss Little got a big cuddle from one of Santa's special helpers!

Teddy Bear Picnic

We are having a teddy bear picnic today. We went around the circle and showed our teddy bears.

Some teddy bears squeaked. Some of the teddy bear’s names are Ted or Edward or Otago bear. There was one called Snowbell I think.
The big kids are going to come and play games with us!
I think our teddy bear picnic is going to be fantastic!

Our new Inquiry

We are looking at what on earth would happen if we had no transport!!
We are just tuning in at the moment and doing lots of thinking about how much we already we know and what we might want to find out!

Jeannie thoguht we should post what we just did in class before!

We looked at a train, a plane, a car and a train and then we brainstomed in paris what these things have in common!

Look at what we came up with!

What do these things have in common?

· have engines
· carry people
· people to drive them
· all have tyres (boat trailer)
· all have own space, cars on road, train on track, plane in air and boat in water
· have windows
· vehicles
· all move
· steering wheels?
· travel to different countries
· all transport
· all have seats
· all have doors
· all travel
· all have motors
· all have garages/covers
· all pollute the air
· seatbelts – do trains??

Would a submarine pollute the air????
Do they all run on petrol???

Our blog party!

Because we had over 1000 visits to our blog we decided to have a party!
We love parties in room 3!
We all bought some food and Miss Little bought the drink.
Storm liked the biscuits that Vaughan made.
Then we recorded what we liked about having a blog.

Thanks to everyone who has read our blog.

Happy Holidays Room 3!

Hello my lovely lot from Room 3! This is just a special little hello to you all while we are on holiday! I hope everyone is having a great time and not getting up to TOO much mischief - just the right amount!

Make sure you check out our map - we are getting very close to our 1000 views and there are red dots from all over the world - I wonder if you can find out where some of the new ones are from?
I am off to Auckland tomorrow for one whole week! I am very excited about seeing some old friends and also going to a big conference to learn all about new cool things we can do in the classroom with our computers and cameras!

Take care everyone and I am looking forward to hearing all your tales when we get back to school!
Lots of love
Miss Little

Our Worm Farm

We found a sheltered place to put the worm farm. We had two old tyres, corrugated iron and some blocks of wood.

We started off making the worm farm by putting the iron on the wood and then putting the tyre on the iron.
Some people dug up some compost for the bedding in the worm farm.

We put soil and paper in the tyre for the bedding. You have to put heaps of moist in so the worms can crawl through their beds. We needed wet shredded paper.

The bedding is now ready for the worms to snuggle up in.

We put a container beside the worm farm for the worm wee to go in. Worm wee is great for plants.

Now it is time for the worms.
There looked like there were hundreds of worms. They felt slimy and slithery.

Some people picked up the worms. They gently put them on the bedding.

A kereru came to visit us while we were making our farm. Miss Little thought it was good luck – Connor thought it wanted to eat some worms!

Finally we have finished our worm farm. We feel really excited about looking after it. Now all we need are some food scraps.

Funky Eye Friday!!

We made some crazy glasses to celebrate Funky Eye Friday!

We thought about how important it is to look after our eyes!

Don't we look GORGEOUS?!

Our big rubbish clean up!

Last week it was Keep New Zealand Beautiful week. Each class had a day of the week to walk round and pick up all the rubbish we could see. Our day was Tuesday.

First, Storm handed out gloves for us to wear. We needed a glove so we wouldn't get germs.

We put our gloves on one hand, we had to remember to use this hand to pick up the rubbish!

We had 3 rubbish bags which we filled up with the rubbish we found.

We then went for a big walk round the school. We looked in the flax bushes and along the fence line....

...along the tennis court.......

...and in the bushes.

We found lots of rubbish in here. There were chippie packets, yoghurt pottles, plastic bags, bar wrappers, plastic bottles - so much!

Sometimes we had to look really hard for little bits of rubbish hiding in the ground.

We felt surprised about how much rubbish we found and excited that we had picked it all up! We filled about 2 bags!
