Worm Farm Wonderings...

Well, we have decided that a worm farm will be an excellent way to get rid of our food scraps but there is one problem....we don't know anything about them!

So we have come up with these questions to help us on our search.

If anyone knows the answers, or has any handy hints, please drop us a line!

What things do we need to make a worm farm?
What food do worms eat?
Do worms eat anything else?
Do we need any soil or compost?
Do we need to put a lid on it?
Do worms need air?
Where do we get the worms from?
How big should the worm farm be?
Where is a good place to put our worm farm?
Hmmm? Let us know if you have any ideas!

I love your questions about worm farming R3! I am very interested too, but I don't think I have any answers. Yes, where do you get the worms from, are they just the common garden kind? I can't wait to keep checking your blog to find out. Ms D-R.

Hi Bradford Three,

Interesting to see you are interested in worm farms. I wonder have you seen the movie that Sam from our class made about the worm farm he has at home. Check it out here:

We think that worms do need air and they need a lid with holes in. We like your questions and we look forward to finding out how you answer them.

Hi Room 3. Perhaps when your class goes to the school library on Monday you could have a look and see if there are any books on worm farms. If not check out the Public Library or even an internet search (google). Good Luck!!!!

Storm and her sister spent some time in the weekend digging lots of holes in our lawn. They were on a worm hunt , Storm assured me this was how you make a worm farm. They got containers for their worms, filled them with soil(more holes in the lawn!!!), and after tea added food scraps.

Who knows how many they will find this weekend!!!

Great questions. Room two thinks
Isaac -- worms eat compost.
Aimee --- worms need air because they are creatures and they need to have air to survive.
Anna - - You need to find worms underground they like leaves that have molded into the ground.
William -- Worms need to survive. So will eat leaves.
Callum -- They love lots of air and leaves.
Conor--Worms need good soil.
Lucinda - - Worms like it dark in the soil.

Did you know there is a worm farm in brighton?
